Butler football has been tabbed as one of the top 10 junior college football teams in the nation for the 2013 season, according to the JCGridiron.com Preseason "Dirty 30" poll that was released over the weekend.
The Grizzlies are ranked No. 7 in the JCGridiron.com preseason list, which features both NJCAA and California junior colleges. The NJCAA Preseason Top 20 football poll will be released later this month.
Butler is one of two Jayhawk Conference teams to be ranked in the JCGridirion.com "Dirty 30" poll. Hutchinson, the KJCCC and Region VI runner-up last year, is ranked No. 14 in the poll. Conference foes Fort Scott, Coffeyville and Garden City are listed as "On the Bubble" teams, just outside of the top 30 list.
This is the ninth year of the "Dirty 30" Poll, which Butler has been ranked in the final poll each year - including six top 10 finishes and a first-place tie with Mississippi Gulf Coast in the 2007 poll.
Butler finished the 2012 campaign with an 11-1 record, winning both the Jayhawk Conference and Region VI titles for a third consecutive season. The Grizzlies finished ranked #2 in the NJCAA final poll after losing to Iowa Western in the NJCAA National Championship game.
The Grizzlies open the season Saturday, Aug. 24 with a 7 p.m. home contest against Dodge City. Butler will host four regular-season home games – Dodge City, Independence (Sept. 14), Highland (Sept. 21) and Hutchinson (Oct. 26).
