Butler's Gibson to participate in NJCAA All-Star Game

Butler forward Ashley Gibson was recently named to participate in the sixth annual NJCAA Coaches Association All-Star weekend in Niceville, Fla.

Gibson has been selected as one of the top 40 returning players in the country and will play in the All-Star weekend held in July. The 40 players will be broken into four teams and each team will play twice during the weekend event. Numerous NCAA Division I and Division II coaches will be in attendance to take in the event as well.

"We are very excited for Ashley to earn such an honor," said Butler head women's basketball coach Mike Helmer. "I know we are somewhat biased, but we believe that she is one of the top players in the country. It's nice for other people to recognize her as such."

Gibson, a 5-10 Oklahoma product, just finished her freshman year at Butler, where she averaged 12.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while shooting 57 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line. In addition, Gibson was named to the Jayhawk East All-Conference team as well as the All-Region VI team and All-Region VI Tournament Team.

Gibson joins former teammate Ashlee Ivy, as well as Jamillah Bonner as the only three Grizzlies to ever play in the NJCAA All-Star event.
