Grizzlies place nine on KJCCC All-Conference team

The Butler women's soccer team had nine players named to the KJCCC All-Conference team - including three first-teamers.

Three sophomores - forward Brittney Lawrence, midfielder Madison Wedekind and defender Kileigh Vann - received first-team honors. Both Lawrence and Wedekind earned first-team honors last season, giving the Grizzlies two back-to-back first teamers.

Six players - Jaclyn Means, Rosa Urista-Chico, Maddie Decker, Baylee Vaughn, Madison Zimmer and Kelsi Langley - were named to the second team.

Wedekind, from Valley Center, led the Grizzlies with 33 total points on the season - scoring a team-high 13 goals and finishing third with seven assists. Wedekind had a stretch of scoring 10 goals in a nine-game span and had three games with two goals (St. Louis, Sept. 5; at Dodge City, Sept. 20; at Neosho County, Sept. 28).

Lawrence, from Ajax, Canada, scored 20 points and finished with six goals and eight assists. The sophomore forward had a eight-game streak of scoring at least one point (Aug. 23-Sept. 19).

Vann, hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, scored six goals and had one assist. The sophomore defender scored two goals and one assist in a 10-1 win at Neosho County on Sept. 28.

Means, from Wichita, finished with 30 points - scoring six goals and a team-high nine assists. Means scored two goals and had one assist in an 8-0 win over St. Louis on Sept. 5. In a 10-0 home win against Cowley, Means had four assists.

Urista-Chico, from Wichita, finshed with 24 points and scored nine goals with six assists. The freshman forward netted a hat trick and one assist in a 10-0 win against Hesston College on Sept. 7. Urista-Chico earned KJCCC Co-Player of the Week honors during Week 2.

Decker, a Topeka native, scored eight points - two goals and four assists. The sophomore midfielder finished with a goal and an assist in an 8-0 home win against St. Louis, then also had a goal and assist in a 8-0 win at KCK on Oct. 10. Decker was a first-team selection at midfielder last season.

Vaughn, from Wichita, started 17 of 19 games this season and was a key piece of the Grizzly backfield, as the team allowed just 19 goals on the season.

Zimmer, a Wichita native, scored 14 points - with six goals and two assists. The freshman defender scored two goals in an 8-0 win over St. Louis on Sept. 5. Zimmer also scored two goals in a 10-1 road win at Neosho County on Sept. 28.

Langley, a sophomore from Newton, played in 12 games and started 10 in the regular season. She had a record of 6-2-1 with seven shutouts. Langley had a 0.77 goals against average and made 45 saves. Langley, who was a KJCCC first-team selection last year, earned both the NJCAA and KJCCC Goalkeeper of the Week honors during Week 10 (Oct. 20-26).
