Former Grizzly running back Chris Carson named to NFL’s Top 100 list
Chris Carson, current Seattle Seahawk and former Butler Grizzly running back was recently named to the National Football League's Top 100 list.
The NFL Top 100 is an annual list that features the top one hundred players in the National Football League, as chosen by fellow NFL players.
Carson, who has rushed for more than 1,100 yards each of the past two seasons, checks in at No. 96 on the list. Carson, the seventh-round draft pick in 2017, rushed for 1,230 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games last season, and also caught 37 passes for 266 yards and two scores. In 2018, Carson rushed for 1,151 yards and nine scores in 14 games, making him Seattle's first 1,000-yard back since Marshawn Lynch in 2014.
During his two seasons at Butler, Carson helped lead the Grizzlies to a 17-5 overall record during the 2013 and 2014 seasons with a KJCCC title in 2013. In his freshman season, Carson played in 11 games and had 109 carries accumulating 611 yards. He had an average of 5.6 yards per carry and scored eight touchdowns. He also had seven receptions for 94 yards in his freshman campaign.
Carson really broke out of his shell sophomore year and rushed for nearly 1,000 yards in just nine games played. Carson racked up 994 total yards on the ground, averaging 110.4 per game and a decimating 7.2 per carry. He scored nine touchdowns and had a long touchdown of 68 yards against Ellsworth in the season finale. Although the receiving core was led by current Dallas Cowboy, Michael Gallup, Cason finished the season with 12 receptions for 63 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
"We are super excited for Chris and this honor from the NFL," said head coach Tim Schaffner. "I am proud to say that he was a part of this program and I have enjoyed watching him grow and develop since he left Butler. I have known Chris to be a humble and goal oriented young man; he never said much, and he didn't need to, because no one was going to outwork him and you don't reach the rarefied air he's in, without God-given ability, and a tremendous work ethic. I think he's just beginning to scratch the surface and look forward to watching him shine on football's biggest stage, and move up this prestigious list, for years to come. Congratulations Chris, BuCo nation is proud of you!"
