EMPORIA, Kan. - The Butler outdoor track and field team competed at the Emporia State Relays this past Saturday. The Grizzly squad had a total of seven top ten finishes at Emporia - including two runner-up finishes by Leroy Moore and Ashanna Hodge.
Moore, a sophomore from Birmingham, Ala., placed second in the men's 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 48.66 seconds. Hodge, a sophomore from Barbados, was second in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a 1:04.20 time.
Sophomore sprinter Justin Breaux took third in the men's 100-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 10.79 seconds. Breaux was the top collegiate placer in the event, as two unattached runners finished with a faster time.
Edwin Serem finished sixth in the 5000-meter run and eighth in the men's 1500-meter run, giving the Kenyan sophomore a pair of top ten finishes on the day.
In the men's 4x100-meter relay, the team of Richard Marcano, Steven Calloway, Breaux and Moore placed fourth. The 'B' team of Alfred Larry, Evel Jones, Devin Suggs and Shaquille Alleyne finished ninth in the relay event.
Next up for the Butler track and field team will be the K.T. Woodman Classic at Wichita State University. The two-day event begins Friday, with the long distance running events, the men's discus and the men's and women's javelin. All other events will take place on Saturday.
