CHANUTE, Kan. – The Butler volleyball opened the 2012 campaign by sweeping through the Neosho County Invitational on Friday and Saturday, winning all four matches without dropping a set.
The Grizzlies swept Coffeyville (25-21, 25-22, 25-18) and Marshalltown, Iowa (25-19, 25-10, 25-16) on Friday. On Saturday, Butler beat Allen County (25-8, 25-12, 25-17) and finished the weekend by sweeping the home team Neosho (25-23, 25-15, 25-5).
Individually, Payton White had impressive debut weekend as the freshman from Liberty, Mo. had a team-high .492 hitting percentage with 35 kills, 14 blocks, seven digs and two service aces. Sophomore Hanna Flaming hit .448 with 31 kills and 31 digs while Haleigh Lewis had 26 kills and led Butler with 16 blocks.
The Grizzlies will now take their 4-0 record on the road for their first Jayhawk Conference match when they travel to Allen County on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. match against the Red Devils in Iola.
Butler will play its first home game on Wednesday, Sept. 5 against Johnson County at 6:30 p.m.
