Butler women’s basketball guard Destiny Smith and track and field mid-distance runner Cesar Pavia have been selected as the White Eagle Credit Union Athletes of the Week for the week of February 10th through February 16th, 2025.

Destiny Smith (Women’s Basketball)

Smith, a freshman from Newton, Kan., has been named the White Eagle Athlete of the Week for a second straight week after another strong showing last week. Smith helped the Grizzlies go 3-0 on the week with wins over Fort Hays Tech NW, Colby and Independence. In a 106-55 win over Independence at home, Smith tallied a career-high 6 points shooting 10-12 from three point range. She shot 9-10 from distance in the first half with 31 points entering the locker room. Smith also added five rebounds and three assists.

Cesar Pavia (Men’s Track and Field)

Pavia, a freshman from Liberal, Kan., turned in a strong performance at the Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg on Friday and Saturday. He finished eighth in the men’s 600-yard run with a time of 1:13.48 out of 22 runners. Pavia also ran in the men’s 800m placing 13th out 58 runners with a time of 1:55.63. The run qualified him for the NJCAA Indoor National Meet later this season.
