Butler women’s track and field athlete Elizabeth Hernandez and men’s track and field athlete Ishmael Achaempong have been selected as the White Eagle Credit Union Athletes of the Week for the week of January 27th through February 2nd, 2025.
Elizabeth Hernandez (Women’s Track and Field)
Hernandez, a sophomore from Tlaxcala, Mexico, had a big week for the Grizzly women at the Washburn Open in Topeka. She became the first Grizzly on the women's side to qualify for NJCAA Nationals this season as she ran 10:21.18 in the 3000m placing fifth out of 47 runners. Hernandez also placed 43rd in the women's mile running 5:21.72.
Ishmael Acheampong (Men’s Track and Field)
Acheampong, a sophomore from Kumasi, Ghana, also had impressive performances at the Washburn Open in Topeka over the weekend. He finished in third in the 800m running it in 1:51.83 which was a nationally qualifying time. His time is the fifth best in the NJCAA this season and a lifetime best. He also placed second in the 600y running it in 1:12.25. Acheampong has qualified for nationals in the 800m as well as the mile (4:12.90).
