Butler’s Season Ends in Plains District Loss to No. 2 Cloud

The Grizzlies finish the season with an overall record of 32-27 under first year head coach Seth Wheeler. Cloud moves on in the Plains District Tournament, picking up their 50th win on the season (50-6). Butler finishes the year in third place in the Jayhawk Conference regular season standings and saw an open round series win over the Neosho Panthers to lift the Grizzlies into Wichita.
Cloud plated two runs across in the bottom half of the first after a two-run homer from Kellan Burke to take a 2-0 lead. After a scoreless second inning, Cloud got on the board again in the bottom half of the third after a Luke Clayton RBI single pushed the T-Birds lead to 3-0.
The Grizzlies got their first runs of the contest in the top half of the fourth after a two-run home run from freshman Logan Hicks, cutting the Cloud lead to 3-2 and seemingly giving the Grizzlies some life.

In the bottom half of the inning, Cloud instantly responded to the Grizzlies two-run shot and then some. Cloud put up a six spot in the inning, including three home runs to put the T-Birds up 9-2.
Alex Coester singled up the middle to begin the fifth inning for the Grizzlies, and later had the bases loaded with two outs, but the Grizzlies couldn't capitalize, stranding the runners.
Cloud would go onto score three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, ending the game 12-2 in five innings after Lucas Laukkanen's second home run of the game.
Butler had only four hits on the afternoon in only 18 at bats and struck out seven times. Cloud recorded 12 hits on 12 runs in 25 at bats.
Cooper Annin suffered the loss on the mound for the Grizzlies. Annin threw three innings and allowed seven hits, five earned runs and had three strikeouts.
