Bio
Seth Wheeler was named head baseball coach at Butler Community College in November 2025 and enters his second season at the helm in 2026-27.
In his first season as head coach, Wheeler guided the Grizzlies to a 32-27 record, including an 18-14 mark in KJCCC play, and a third-place finish in the KJCCC West Division. The 32 wins marked a seven-win improvement from the previous season. Wheeler also led the Grizzlies to a first-round series victory in the 2026 NJCAA Plains District Tournament, defeating Neosho County two games to one in a thrilling series in which Butler scored 31 runs over three games. He coached two Grizzlies, Jackson Ellison and Danny Wideman, to All-Region VI honors.
Wheeler is a veteran of the Jayhawk Conference, having spent the previous two seasons as head assistant coach and pitching coach at Hutchinson Community College under Brock Nehls from 2024-25. The 2024 Blue Dragons set a school record with a 51-12 record, won the Jayhawk Conference championship and finished as Region VI Tournament runner-up. Starting pitcher Ethan Giesbrecht and relief pitcher Caden Wanless earned first-team All-Jayhawk West and second-team All-Region VI honors. Bradley Neill was a second-team All-Region VI selection, while Trenton Roehler earned honorable mention recognition.
The 2025 Blue Dragons finished 40-21 overall and 18-14 in conference play. Hutchinson posted a 5.98 team ERA for the season.
Prior to Hutchinson, Wheeler spent eight seasons on staff at Emporia State University, serving first as pitching coach before becoming the Hornets' head coach for five seasons.
As head coach, Wheeler led Emporia State to a 97-116 overall record, including three NCAA Division II Tournament appearances and an MIAA regular-season championship. During his five-year tenure, he coached 26 All-MIAA selections.
Prior to Emporia State, Wheeler served as Butler's catching and strength and conditioning coach in 2015. Both Grizzlies catchers that season signed with NCAA Division I programs. Wheeler also worked with the team's baserunning, helping Butler lead the NJCAA in stolen bases while finishing with a 30-25 overall record.
Wheeler also served as head coach of the Junction City Brigade collegiate summer league team from 2015-17. Under his leadership, Junction City compiled a 72-42 overall record.
Wheeler began his collegiate playing career at Butler during the 2010-11 seasons. He earned All-Jayhawk Conference honors as a sophomore, and the 2010 Grizzlies captured a share of the Jayhawk West championship.
He concluded his playing career at the University of Central Missouri, where he earned honorable mention All-MIAA honors as a catcher. Wheeler helped lead the Mules to the 2014 MIAA regular-season championship while batting .324.
A native of Overland Park, Kansas, Wheeler graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School in 2009. He earned an associate degree in liberal arts from Butler Community College in 2011 before receiving a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Central Missouri.
Wheeler and his wife, Kayla, have four children: Ford, Charlie Lou, and twins Miley and Gracie.
