Bio
Jake Landoll enters his fifth season on the Butler Community College coaching staff in 2026. Landoll serves as the Grizzlies' associate head coach and defensive coordinator.
In 2025, Butler's defense ranked among the top three in most major defensive categories in the Jayhawk Conference. Landoll coached redshirt freshman linebacker Justyce Betts to NJCAA All-America honors.
The 2024 season saw Butler earn a share of the KJCCC championship. Landoll's defensive line was anchored by first-team All-American and KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year Seven Cloud, who finished with 48 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three blocked kicks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup. Landoll also helped four defensive linemen move on to four-year programs: Kenton Simmons (Florida International), Seth LeClair (Fort Hays State), Demetrie Morgan (North Texas) and Jaden Roper (Georgia State).
In his second season at Butler, Landoll helped mentor NJCAA All-American and first-team All-KJCCC selection Marlin Dean. Dean totaled 25 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. Malcolm Alcorn-Crowder also earned honorable mention All-KJCCC recognition under Landoll's guidance. Following the season, five Grizzly defensive linemen advanced to four-year institutions: Dean (Utah State), Alcorn-Crowder (Kansas State), Wesley Bentley (Savannah State), James Smith (Pittsburg State) and Jaden Scott (Central Oklahoma).
Landoll's first season at Butler in 2022 ended with an 8-4 record and the program's 17th bowl victory, a win over Kilgore in the Heart of Texas Bowl. He coached three All-KJCCC defensive linemen in Caleb Foster, Caylen Lowery and Ugo Nosike. Six defensive linemen continued their careers at four-year programs following the season: Malik Stewart (Northern Iowa), George Traglia (Kansas State), Laine Jenkins (Illinois), Nosike (Eastern Michigan), Lowery (Quincy) and Aaron Woods (Virginia-Wise).
Before joining Butler, Landoll spent two seasons as defensive coordinator at Highland Community College. During his tenure, the Scotties produced nine all-conference selections and two NJCAA All-Americans. One defensive end led the nation in sacks during the 2021 season, and 11 defensive players signed with NCAA Division I programs.
Prior to Highland, Landoll coached at the University of Saint Mary, Bethel College, Northwestern State and Missouri Southern State. At Northwestern State, he mentored graduate assistant Dennis Johnson, who later became defensive line coach at LSU and now serves as defensive line coach for the Baltimore Ravens. During his tenure, the Demons earned several all-conference selections and recorded victories over nationally ranked FCS opponents Sam Houston State, Central Arkansas and Stephen F. Austin, along with an upset of FBS opponent Louisiana Tech.
While at Missouri Southern State, Landoll coached Brandon Williams, the NCAA Division II National Defensive Player of the Year and an All-American who finished his career as the school's all-time leader in sacks. Williams was later selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the third round of the NFL Draft.
Landoll credits much of his coaching development to longtime defensive line coaches Jay Thomas and Pete Jenkins. Thomas previously served as an assistant to the general manager of the Tennessee Titans, while Jenkins built a nationally respected reputation during his longtime career at LSU and as a mentor to Ed Orgeron.
Before entering the coaching profession, Landoll was a three-year starter on the defensive line at the University of Saint Mary. He earned first-team All-KCAC honors as both a junior and senior, received All-Region and Don Hansen All-America recognition in both seasons and competed in the inaugural NAIA All-Star Game, where he set game records with 4.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles.
Landoll graduated from the University of Saint Mary in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in accounting and business marketing.
Jake and his wife, Bekkah, have three children: Greyson, Laila Paislee and Lincoln Thomas ("Tommy"). They also have a hamster named Cinnamon.
