HAYS, Kan. – For the folks wearing purple in Fort Hays State's Gross Memorial Coliseum on Friday afternoon, it felt as if the ride was going to continue into Saturday. The fifth seeded Butler Grizzlies (22-11) led the top seeded and regular season KJCCC champion Cowley Tigers 54-51, having possession with a minute to play in regulation. A wild and wacky minute later and the Grizzlies sat stunned, having lost 58-54 and seeing the 2024-25 season come to a close.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Grizzlies got it done when it mattered most. The fifth seeded Butler men's basketball team took down the fourth seeded Hutchinson Blue Dragons 74-73 at the Sports Arena on Tuesday evening in the Region 6 Quarterfinals. Butler (22-10) was 0-2 vs. the Blue Dragons in the regular season but secured the win on Hutchinson's (19-12) home floor in the postseason as Grizzly head coach Eric Nitsche picked up the win over his previous employer.
Five-seed Butler (21-10) took down 12-seed Pratt (11-20), 95-78, in the first round of the Region 6 Tournament at the Power Plant on Saturday afternoon. Emeka Opurum continued the impressive play following his heroic 18-point, 19-rebound effort in the win over fifth ranked Cowley on Wednesday as the freshman from Nigeria led Butler with 20 points to go with seven rebounds and four blocks versus the Beavers. Bubba Leavell finished with 14 points while Devin Kerr added 12 points, Josiah Kirkwood had 10 points and dished out five assists and Rashad McCormick finished with 11 points, five rebounds and five assists. The Grizzlies had 47 bench points in the game.

CONCORDIA, Kan. – The Butler men's basketball team lost 86-83 at Cloud County on Saturday afternoon in Arley Bryant Gymnasium. Butler (19-10, 14-9 KJCCC) was unable to get over the hump in the loss to the T-Birds (12-17, 6-17) after previously beating them 89-70 at the Power Plant in mid-January. The win for the T-Birds snapped a four-game losing streak while Butler is 2-3 in their last five. The Grizzlies outrebounded Cloud 49-27 but saw the T-Birds shoot 48.1% to the Grizzlies 39.4% as well as allowing 11 T-Bird threes to Butler's eight. Cloud County shot 25-31 (80.6%) from the free throw line while Butler shot 18-26 (69.2%).

EL DORADO, Kan. – The 24th ranked Butler men’s basketball team bounced back from a loss, winning big over Independence 118-63 at the Power Plant on Saturday afternoon The Grizzlies (18-7, 13-6 KJCCC) recovered from a loss at Colby on Tuesday by scoring the program’s most points in a conference game since January 3rd, 2018, in a road win over Pratt, 128-107. Indy fell to11-14 and 7-2 in league action. Butler shot a season-high 55.8% (43-77) from the field as well as finishing with a season-high 24 assists. They shot 70% from the field in the first half heading to the locker room with 67 points leading 67-30.
PRATT, Kan. – Butler Community College men's basketball held on for an 85-82 road win over the Pratt Beavers on Saturday afternoon at the Beaver Dome. A pair of freshmen in Josiah Kirkwood (2) and Devin Kerr (12) led the Grizzlies in scoring with 16 points each with Kerr also adding 10 rebounds.
