The Butler Grizzlies picked up two more wins in another doubleheader sweep, their 13th sweep of the year, this time dispatching Colby in two games on the road on Saturday, winning game one 11-5, before completing the sweep of the Trojans with a 6-3 victory.
Game One
Madi Young and Ari Cordova homered in game one, Young led the game off with a home run to center field in the first at bat of the game, her 11th of the year. Young finished with two RBIs and Cordova and Paxton both had three. The Grizzlies scored the first eight runs of the ball game and held on despite a five run seventh from the Trojans. Butler finished with 11 runs on 13 hits.
Emma Koeneke picked up her 15th victory of the year, giving up no runs and just one hit in three innings of work. Kendal LeGrand and Ariel Matula pitched in relief, as the three Grizzlies combined to allow five runs on seven hits, striking out nine.
Game Two
Alex Olson was the hero in game two, hitting a three run shot in the fifth, part of a five run inning that saw Butler take the lead after trailing 3-2. Cordova also homered in the game, her second of the day and her fifth of the year.
Allyson Montgomery picked up her 13th victory, staying unbeaten on the year, pitching five innings and allowing just two runs on three hits in the victory.
The sweep improves the Grizzlies' record to 28-2 on the year, and 16-2 in conference play. Butler's road record improves to 15-1, and their win streak extends to three games. They'll look to keep their winning ways going on Monday, as they return to East Park for a doubleheader against Seward on Monday.
