El Dorado, Kan. – The No. 14 ranked Butler Grizzlies defeated the McCook Indians 72-41 on day one of the Ev Kohls Grizzly Classic.
The Grizzlies begin their season 4-0 for the sixth consecutive season following the win over McCook. Butler took control of the opening tip, as they led 19-6 after the first quarter and never looked back.
The Grizzlies held McCook to 34.8% shooting from the field, 1 of 12 from down-town. Butler shot 43.1% from the field, 5 of 18 from three point-land, and were 17 of 24 from the charity stripe. The Grizzlies forced 24 McCook turnovers, capitalizing with 23 points off turnovers. Four Grizzlies finished in double-figures, with Mya Mayberry and Aliyah Green each leading the team in scoring with 13 a piece. Elina Syniakova added 12 points off the bench, and reigning Jayhawk Conference freshman of the year Ashley Singhateh added 10.
Butler improves to 4-0 on the young season, while McCook falls to 2-4.
Next Up: The Grizzlies will be back in action tomorrow night at 6 p.m. to close out the Ev Kohls Grizzly Classic when they face the Bethany College JV squad from the Power Plant in El Dorado, Kansas.
