The Grizzlies (9-0, 4-0) used a suffocating defensive effort to overwhelm winless Fort Hays Tech (0-9, 0-3), securing Butler's first 9-0 start since the 2023-24 campaign.
Butler jumped out to a 20-12 lead after the first quarter, forcing five turnovers and holding Fort Hays Tech to 33.3 percent shooting. The Grizzlies added another 20 points in the second quarter to take a 40-18 halftime advantage. Fort Hays Tech managed just two field goals on 10 attempts in the period and committed nine turnovers, giving them 14 at the break.
The second half followed the same script, as Butler outscored Fort Hays Tech 38-20. The 40-point margin marked the Grizzlies' second-largest win of the season, trailing only their 92-49 victory over Northern Oklahoma Tonkawa in the opener. Through nine games, Butler has outscored opponents by an average of 27.1 points per contest.
Ashley Singhateh and Jalyiah Manuel paced the offense with 15 points apiece. Manuel's production came in just 10 minutes of action, including 10 points in the second quarter alone. Sophomore Mya Mayberry added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
As a team, Butler shot 43.5 percent from the field, dominated the glass with a 54-25 rebounding edge, and collected 17 steals.
Up next: The Grizzlies hit the road Wednesday to face the Garden City Broncbusters (7-1, 2-1), who are coming off a strong start to conference play.
