Grizzlies Control Game From Start to Finish, Defeat Independence

EL DORADO, Kan. – The No. 14 ranked Butler Grizzlies improve to 11-1 on the season after taking down the Independence Pirates (4-9, 1-6) 81-44 for their final home game of 2025.
An all around solid peformance for the Grizzlies propelled them in the win over Independence.
The Grizzlies led Independence 25-17 after the first quarter. Butler shot an effecient 10 of 19 from the field after one, compared to the Pirates six of 14, four of four from the foul line.
Butler blew the game open in the second quarter, outscoring Independence 21-11 and taking a 46-28 lead heading into half time. The Grizzlies shot seven of 17 from the floor in the second quarter, but forced eight Independence turnovers.
The contest got out of hand in the third quarter, as the Grizzlies allowed only four third quarter points, compared to Butler's 23.
The Grizzlies shot 45.7 percent from the field, 32 of 70 overall. Independence shot only 32 percent from the floor. Butler outrebounded Independence 38-29, and forced 26 turnovers on the night. Butler also had 23 assists on 32 made baskets.
Aliyah Green stuffed the stat sheet for the Grizzlies, finishing with 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Destiny Smith added 14 points off the bench, four of eight from three point land. Kenzie Galliart finished her night with 13 points, and Keegan Yarick had 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
The Grizzlies now sit in second place in the Jayhawk Conference standings, one game back from the No. 1 ranked team in the country Dodge City.
Next up: The Grizzlies will travel to Liberal, Kan. to take on the Seward County Saints from the Greenhouse at 2 p.m. on saturday.
