EL DORADO, Kan. – The No. 14 ranked Butler Grizzlies controlled the game from start to finish in the victory over No. 1 Dodge City on Saturday.
No. 14 Butler (15-1, 9-1) upset No. 1 ranked Dodge City (14-1, 9-1) 72-58 to take control of the Jayhawk Conference leaderboard. The win over Dodge City was the Grizzlies first win over the Conquistadors since the 2023-24 season, having lost the previous three meetings last season.
The Grizzlies took a 35-25 halftime lead after leading the first quarter 15-12. Butler opened the game up in the third quarter, outscoring Dodge City 24-15 in the third. The Grizzlies led the Conquistadors 59-40 heading into the fourth. Dodge City was never able to recover, and the Grizzlies completed the upset 72-58.
Butler shot 48.4 percent from the field on the day, six of 18 from three. Dodge City was held to 35.5 percent shooting and were only 11 of 37 from deep. The Grizzlies controlled the glass, outrebounding Dodge City 41-30.
Sophomore Ashley Singhateh led the Grizzlies offensively, finishing with 14 points on six of 12 shooting to go along with eight boards, three assists, and two steals. Aliyah Green recorded 12 points on six of 10 shooting. Destiny Smith contributed with 10 points off the bench on four of nine shooting.
Butler and Dodge City are both 9-1 in conference play on the season, with the Grizzlies owning the tie breaker.
Next up: The Grizzlies will be on the road on Wednesday and Saturday. On Wednesday, Butler will travel to Concordia to take on the Cloud County Thunderbirds set for a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
