The Butler soccer team scored two goals in the second half and held off Neosho County in the end for a 2-1 victory late Saturday night at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
The victory puts the Grizzlies (12-4-3) into the Region VI semifinals, where they will face third-seeded Johnson County at 6:30 p.m. at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka. Johnson defeated Coffeyville 2-0 on Saturday. In the other semifinal, top seed Hutchinson, an 11-0 winner over Hesston, will face fifth-seeded Barton, which outlasted Allen County in penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw.
Butler was locked into a scoreless match through the first half against Neosho, a team the Grizzlies had beaten 10-1 earlier in the season.
In the second half, Butler got on the board in the 52nd minute on a goal by freshman Jaclyn Means. Two minutes later, Means scored again on an assist by Paige Thompson.
Neosho answered quickly, getting a goal less than a minute later by Eliany Parra on an assist by Haley Kinzey.
Neither team would score again, with Butler holding on defensively for the remaining 36 minutes. Butler outshot Neosho 17-4 in the game with keeper Kelsi Langley making one save.
