No. 11 Grizzlies Best No. 18 Rose State Behind Big Second Half

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. – Four second-half goals lifted No. 11 Butler over the No. 18 ranked Raiders of Rose State in a non-conference tilt on Thursday afternoon where the Grizzlies won, 4-2.
The Grizzlies (1-0) open the 2025 campaign with a win, their first victory to begin a season since 2022. With the win, Butler soccer is now 8-0 all-time against Rose State.
Rose State broke through the Grizzlies early, as the Raiders Aubrey Smith scored the first goal of the game two minutes into the contest. The goal by Smith was the only goal in the first half, and the Grizzlies trailed 1-0 heading into the break.
The Grizzlies started the second half with their first goal of the year just two minutes into the half, as sophomore Tyesha Nelson put in the goal for Butler (assisted by Wendy Zamudio) to even things up at 1-1. The Grizzlies scored again six minutes later, this time by freshman Charlotte Long to take a 2-1 lead with 37 minutes left on the clock. Rose State quickly answered with a goal of their own by Annika Hahn to even things back up at 2-2 with 34 minutes to go. The Grizzlies then proceeded to score the final two goals of the game in the final five minutes. Freshman and Wichita native Amiyah Hamilton-Thompson scored the game winning goal (assisted by Anahyssa Nash) with five minutes left to take a 3-2 lead. Rose State had no answer as the Grizzlies put the Raiders to bed with another goal by freshman Heide Bartel to take a 4-2 lead with 30 seconds to go. The 4-2 score held, giving the Grizzlies their first win of the 2025 season.
Grizzlies sophomore goalkeeper Millie Robshaw-Charlesworth earned the win with one save in 90 minutes.
Next up, the Grizzlies head to Seminole, Okla., for a clash with the No. 4 Seminole State Trojans on Monday, Aug. 25 at 5:30 PM.
