GREAT BEND, Kan. – The Butler Grizzlies extend their winning streak to three games after their 5-1 victory over the Barton Cougars.
Butler (6-6-3, 5-3-1) recorded their highest goal total of the season in the win, climbing to second place in the Jayhawk Conference standings. Barton (7-6-0, 4-5-0) dropped to fifth.
The Grizzlies struck first just seven minutes into the match when Naho Yamamura found the back of the net off an assist from Amiyah Hamilton-Thompson. Barton answered four minutes later to level the score at 1-1.
In the second half, Isabel Sandoval reclaimed the lead for Butler with a goal assisted by Yamamura, making it 2-1. With 32:27 remaining in regulation, Yamamura netted her second goal of the game, assisted by Heide Bartel, pushing the lead to 3-1. Thirteen minutes later, Sandoval scored again—this time assisted by Yamamura—to extend the advantage to 4-1. Charlotte Long capped off the scoring with a goal at the 15:04 mark, sealing the 5-1 win.
Butler fired 19 shots, including 10 on goal. Sandoval and Yamamura each tallied two goals, with Yamamura also contributing two assists. Goalkeeper Millie Robshaw-Charlesworth recorded five saves in the victory.
Next up: Butler returns home to El Dorado on Saturday to host the Jayhawk Conference-leading Cowley Tigers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
