EL DORADO, Kan. — The Butler Grizzlies and No. 7-ranked Cowley Tigers battled to a hard-fought 2-2 draw Saturday night in El Dorado.
The tension was palpable between the evenly matched squads, with Butler (6-6-4) striking first. London Ingram opened the scoring less than six minutes into the match, assisted by Merari Flores, giving the Grizzlies an early 1-0 lead. Cowley (7-0-4) responded with 26:14 remaining in the first half, as Sara Cortes netted the equalizer off a pass from Saki Sanno.
Ingram wasn't done. She scored again later in the half, this time assisted by Naho Yamamura, sending Butler into halftime with a 2-1 advantage.
Cowley found the equalizer once more in the second half, scoring with 16:01 left on the clock to level the match at 2-2. Despite several chances, Butler couldn't regain the lead, and the match ended in a draw.
Discipline was a factor throughout the game, with six yellow cards issued—two to Butler and four to Cowley.
Statistically, Cowley outshot Butler 18-6, including an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. Grizzlies goalkeeper Millie Robshaw-Charlesworth stood tall, recording six saves to preserve the tie.
Next Up: Butler will be back at home on Wednesday to face the Coffeyville Red Ravens at 7 p.m.
