Masters Joins Butler Track and Field/Cross Country Coaching Staff
El Dorado Native and WSU Great to Join Coaching Staff
EL DORADO, Kan. – A Wichita State Track and Field legend and El Dorado native, Destiny Masters has officially joined Butler Track and Field and Cross Country as an assistant coach.
Masters is set to join the Grizzly coaching staff fresh off a standout career for the Shockers that included All-American performances and her name littered across the WSU record book.
"I'm excited for Destiny to come home and start making an impact on our program," head track and field/cross country coach Mark Emerson said. "Her career at WSU speaks for itself and her character impressed me throughout the process. Destiny brings experience in multiple events and will be an asset for our student-athletes."
Masters was a six-time All-American at WSU, including placing 10th in the nation in the heptathlon at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She became the first WSU student-athlete in history to earn All-America status in back-to-back NCAA heptathlons. The six All-American honors rank second all-time in Shocker history, male or female.
She holds the WSU record in the indoor high jump as well as the pentathlon while earning six bids to NCAA Outdoor West Preliminaries as well as 11 All-American Athletic Conference honors and four individual conference championships. She was the AAC MVP during the 2024 Indoor Championships and was also named the 2024 Wichita Sports Commission College Female Athlete of the Year.
Masters also impressed in the classroom while at WSU being named Academic All-Conference four times and being named to the AD Honor Roll eight times.
Prior to WSU, Masters was a standout at Bluestem High School in Leon, Kansas. She qualified for the KSHSAA 2A state track and field championships twice, with podium finishes in the high jump, long jump, 100m hurdles and 100m. Her senior year saw her win the state championship in the long jump (17-1.75). Masters holds the Bluestem school records in the high jump (5'6") and long jump (17'9").
