Lechtenberg Makes History as Grizzlies Rally for Reverse Sweep

The Butler Grizzlies (13–8, 4–4) defeated the Hutchinson Blue Dragons (11–12, 3–5) in a five-set reverse sweep (17–25, 24–26, 25–22, 27–25, 17–15).
Hutchinson came out strong, taking the first set 25–17. The Blue Dragons tallied 17 kills with a .419 hitting percentage, while the Grizzlies posted 11 kills on a .296 clip.
The second set was much more competitive, but Hutchinson pulled away late to win 26–24 and take a 2–0 match lead.
After consistently executing in the first two sets with a .361 hitting average, Hutchinson's efficiency dropped to .149 in the third. Butler capitalized, hitting .275 and securing their first set win, 25–22.
The Grizzlies jumped out to a commanding 14–7 lead in the fourth set, but Hutchinson battled back. With the score tied at 22–22, both teams traded points. Hutchinson took a 25–24 lead, but Butler responded with three straight points to force a decisive fifth set.
In the final frame, Butler again surged ahead, leading 12–7. Hutchinson clawed back to take a 14–13 lead, but the Grizzlies held firm, completing the reverse sweep and winning the match 3–2.
Ryann Hamilton led the Grizzlies offensively with 14 kills on 34 attacks and added four block assists. Harlee Randall contributed 13 kills on 27 attacks, while freshman Miami Kirksay recorded 12 kills and 17 digs. Andover, Kan. native Bella Holcomb had a standout night with 46 assists.
Coach Lisa Lechtenberg earned her 160th career win with Butler, surpassing former head coach Dave Slayton for second-most wins in program history. Rick Younger remains the winningest coach with 316 victories, having led the Grizzlies from 2003 to 2017.
Next Up: The Grizzlies return to the Power Plant in El Dorado on Saturday at 2 p.m., looking to avenge their earlier five-set loss to the Seward County Saints.
