EL DORADO, Kan. – A balanced defensive effort powered the Butler Grizzlies to a dominant sweep over Seward County on Saturday.
The Butler Grizzlies (14-8, 5-4) defeated the Seward County Saints (6-13, 3-5) in straight sets — 25-17, 25-14, 25-18 — avenging their early-season five-set loss on September 3 in Liberal, Kan.
From the opening serve, Butler controlled the tempo. The Grizzlies racked up 23 block assists, with sophomore Sophia Neihouse leading the charge with 10. Butler took the first set 25-17 and never looked back.
In the second set, the Grizzlies continued their dominance, cruising to a 25-14 win. Seward struggled to counter Butler's offensive rhythm, and the third set followed suit, ending 25-18 in favor of the Grizzlies.
Rylin Sommer and Miami Kirksay paced the offense with eight kills apiece. Taylin Stallbaumer anchored the defense with 13 digs, while freshman Bella Holcomb orchestrated the attack with 31 assists.
The win marks Butler's seventh victory in their last eight matches — and their fourth straight.
