This matchup served as a rematch of the September 8 contest in El Dorado, where Dodge City swept Butler in straight sets at the Power Plant. This time, however, the Grizzlies flipped the script.
Butler came out strong, claiming the first two sets 25-20 and 25-19. Dodge City responded with resilience, taking sets three and four by scores of 25-16 and 25-20, forcing a decisive fifth set.
The final set was a nail-biter, with both teams trading points in a back-and-forth battle. Ultimately, Butler emerged victorious, edging out Dodge City 20-18 to seal the match.
Sophomore Rylin Sommer led the Grizzlies with 15 kills on 38 total attacks. Harlee Randall contributed 12 kills on 25 attacks, while Miami Kirksay recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 20 digs. Freshman Bella Holcomb paced the offense with 39 assists.
With the win, Butler improves to 15-8 overall and 6-4 in Jayhawk Conference play, moving into third place in the standings. Dodge City drops to 10-11 overall and 4-5 in conference play, falling to fifth place.
Next up: The Grizzlies will enjoy a week off before returning to action on Wednesday, October 15, when they travel to Great Bend to face the Barton Cougars at 6:30 p.m.
